Friday the 13th 2015 in tech: Jason Voorhees hits MKX

While we're sure there'll be more than a few appearances by this miscreant before the day is through, first Jason hits Mortal Kombat X. In just about the most appropriate place for him to be – other than in a horror game that never was – here Mr. Voorhees will be murdering his opponents in a side-scrolling person-vs-person fighter environment just like his hell-bound predecessor. What's that? There was another cult classic horror film appearance in Mortal Kombat before? Of course there was!

Here we see the 10-billionth character added to Mortal Kombat X: Jason Voorhees. The folks behind Mortal Kombat X have released so many pre-release videos and had so many pre-release gaming sessions that we're shocked the game isn't out yet. It'll be out soon, they swear!

UPDATE: According to Mortal Kombat X PR: "The Kombat Pack will include access to four playable characters still in development, including horror icon from the Friday the 13th films, Jason Voorhees, as well as two Klassic Mortal Kombat Kombatants and another special guest character."

Back when Mortal Kombat 9 was released, it was a big deal that a new (and yet old) character was introduced. There it wasn't just Scorpion that came from hell – it was Freddy Krueger.

We'll expect a big lump of a dude bashing his way through opponents with Jason – not so much a sharp, slashing piece of work as Freddy. Also if there's no "Mother" fatality, I'll personally be very let down.

Mortal Kombat X will be launched for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One to the whole entire world at once on April 14th, 2015.
