Fortnite's Infinity Blade is getting nerfed

It's only been a few days since the Infinity Blade was added to Fortnite, and now Epic is already looking to nerf the item. Some kind of adjustment after launch was to be expected, considering how powerful the weapon is. Though the nerf has been announced, it isn't live just yet, but it should be releasing at some point soon.

The Infinity Blade is designated as "Mythic" weapon that's able to destroy structures with a single hit and damage players significantly. Upon pick up, it immediately boosts maximum health and shields and restores both values over time. It also buffs the user's move speed and grants them 50 health whenever they kill another player.

None of that seems to be changing with this nerf. Instead of nerfing the properties of the Infinity Blade, Epic is instead removing the ability to build and harvest resources while wielding it. This change was announced in a thread on the Fortnite subreddit, with Epic saying that it'll be added in the upcoming version 7.10 update.

While the Infinity Blade will still be a supremely powerful weapon, it's meant to be a relatively high-risk one as well. Since it's a melee weapon, you need to get up close to your enemies to deal damage, and being able to build while wielding the sword makes closing that distance safer. By removing the ability to build and harvest, Epic is clearly hoping to make it easier to kill whoever has the Infinity Blade without watering down its abilities.

Epic didn't say when it expects to ship Fortnite version 7.10, but it's probably landing at some point in the next few days. The company also says that it will continue monitoring the Infinity Blade after this change goes live, so this may not be the last we hear of nerfs. Stay tuned.
