Fortnite's already huge player base is growing fast

It almost feels like Fortnite is a game that can't get more popular than it already is. Fortnite is one of those rare titles that seems to have permeated the mainstream so significantly that most people have at least heard about. It shows no signs of slowing down either, as Epic has revealed that Fortnite has now hit 200 million players around the world.

200 million players is definitely nothing to stick your nose up at. Whether those are active players or total registered users wasn't revealed, but we're guessing it's the latter. Regardless, it's an impressive statistic for a game that's barely a year old.

Epic revealed its latest player numbers to Bloomberg, which points out that Fortnite's player base has grown 60% since June alone. Over the summer, Epic revealed that Fortnite had 125 million players, which itself was a big jump from the 40 million it claimed in January.

So, throughout 2018, Fortnite has been growing at a pretty rapid pace. One has to wonder when it'll slow down, but for the moment, Fortnite is definitely the game to beat. Many games have been trying to do just that, with a number of developers and publishers launching battle royale modes for existing titles or creating new battle royale games from the ground-up.

It's hard to imagine any of these new battle royale titles unseating Fortnite, but then again, when Fortnite arrived in September of last year, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was the game to beat and seemed to be in a similarly untouchable position. We'll see what happens with Fortnite as we move into 2019, but those of you who are sick of hearing about the game will have to put up with it for at least a while longer.
