Fortnite offers emote reward for enabling two-factor authentication

Epic Games has a two-factor authentication security option for users who want to protect their accounts. The company is encouraging all users to activate the security option; as incentive, anyone who does will now be given the Boogiedown Emote in Fortnite. A variety of authenticator apps, as well as email, are supported.

Two-factor authentication is an important security feature that helps keep hackers out of players' accounts, an issue that has been present since the battle royale portion of the game surged in popularity. With this security option, users must enter a code when they sign into their account.

To enable the feature, you must be signed into your Epic account. From there, head into Settings and choose the "Password & Security" tab. A new section is present called "Two-Factor Authentication." Within that section, you have two options: email authentication or using an authenticator app. Text-based codes aren't an option.

An authenticator app such as Google Authenticator is the fastest and most secure choice for most users, as it provides the security code on the user's smartphone. Alternatively, the user can choose to have the security code emailed to the email address that is present on the Epic account.

Click on the preferred option. Assuming you choose to use an authenticator app, you'll need to first download it on a smartphone or tablet, then scan the QR code presented within your Epic account. A security code will be delivered; enter that into the Epic account's prompt and then click "Activate." The email authentication is similar; retrieve the code from the email account associated with the Epic account, enter it in the prompt, and click "Activate."
