Fortnite High Stakes and v5.40 update delayed over controller bug

Epic Games has slightly bad news for Fortnite battle royale fans: the new Limited Time Mode scheduled to arrive tomorrow has been delayed. Referred to as "The Getaway," the new mode will arrive in update version 5.40 alongside new challenges and rewards, but Epic says a "critical controller issue" has stalled the release.READ: Fortnite High Stakes: release time, leaks, all the other info

The Getaway LTM is an entirely new experience for Fortnite, being part of a larger event that Epic is calling High Stakes. In The Getaway, players will be part of a squad that must find one of four safes located within Supply Drops on the game's island.

Within each safe is a large jewel; take it and then escape in a van while hoping no one stops you. The first four squads that pull off the jewel heist will win. It sounds like a promising twist on the battle royale gameplay, one that was supposed to arrive tomorrow.

The Getaway is one aspect of High Stakes, which will see a new white-suit skin arrive with four mask options. As well, a new glider will drop with money bags and contrails will blast cash into the sky. While nothing about this changes, the timing does — Epic now plans to release the update with High Stakes on Thursday, September 6, instead of tomorrow.
