Fortnite Australian Open Summer Smash weekend event detailed

Epic Games has announced a new Fortnite event that will take place in conjunction with the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam event of 2020. This will be the second time Fortnite is featured at the Grand Slam event; this time around, Epic says there will be a Trios Pro-Am event on Saturday with a charity prize pool, as well as a Sunday Solo competition and more.

The Pro-Am event will kick off at 1:30 PM AEDT on February 1, a Saturday, and the Sunday Solo competition will follow the next day starting at 1:00 PM AEDT. The Saturday event will feature a $100,000 AUD charity prize pool and the Sunday Solo competition will feature a $400,000 AUD prize pool. Both of these will take place as part of the Australian Open Summer Smash with Fortnite.

Fortnite fans will be able to tune in and watch the pros play over this weekend via the Australian Open's official Twitch channel. There will also be some fun for players who are at home, however, with Epic saying that there will be an in-game Summer Smash Cup event as well. This will be available for players in the Asia and OCE server regions on both February 1 and February 2 from 7 PM to 10 PM AEDT.

This in-game event will offer up rewards to players based on their placement in matches, as well as how many eliminations they get. Epic tells interested players that they'll need to have two-factor authentication enabled on their account and they'll need to have their account to at least a level of 15 to play.

Rewards will include the Paint Splash wrap, which will go to the top 50-percent of players; the Street Shine pickaxe, which will go to the top 25-percent of players; and the Komplex skin, which will go to the top 10-percent of players. All Summer Smash Cup participants will get three Australia-themed sprays, however, called Rose, Shaka, and Quokka.
