Ford recalling cars over poor start button location

Many modern cars have a modern design twist, eschewing the levers and gear shifts from days gone by in favor of touchscreens and buttons. Too many ambiguous buttons can confuse anyone given enough time, however, and it only takes one wrong push to do something you really, really didn't intend to do — like sending a moving car to a sudden screeching halt. Such is a problem being experienced by some 2015 Lincoln MKC owners, who have complained that a poorly located start button means potentially dangerous mistakes are happening.

The 2015 Lincoln MKC has a push-to-start ignition button, which is also used to stop the car. It also features a button with an "S" that is used to trigger the sport mode...and that can be easily confused with the "start" button, which will stop the car if pressed when it has already been started. See the problem?

Some have complained that the start button's location also makes it easy to accidentally hit when trying to adjust the radio or fiddle with the touchscreen. One person had a passenger accidentally hit the start button when moving for the radio, for example, which reportedly caused the Lincoln to screech to a halt while driving — something that is exceedingly dangerous.

Fortunately, Ford says it doesn't know of any injuries or such that have been caused by this. The auto maker will be recalling 13,500 MKCs to move the location of the start button, however, and to reprogram the car's powertrain so this problem goes away.

On a related note, Ford is also recalling some MKCs over a faulty fuel pump.
