First look at 2019 BMW Z4 revealed in leaked pics

It's been a full year now since BMW revealed the concept version of the new Z4 roadster, set to be the first update to the model in over seven years. While the car has spotted testing in camouflage since then, BMW is still dragging its feet on revealing the final design of the 2019 Z4. It could be debuting soon, however, as a set of pictures have leaked to a number of BMW enthusiast sites, offering a look at the convertible from several angles.

It's easy to see the roadster's final design is very similar to last year's concept, with the overall shape and body lines remaining the same. But like any transition from concept to consumer version, the most noticeable changes are in the details. The 2019 Z4 is a little less sharp than the concept, with the headlights especially being less pointy.

While the leaked photos are careful to scrub out the background, the Z4 shown is a M40i model. Both the front and rear fascias maintain the slim and wide look shown on the concept, but tweaked just enough to match BMW's current design language. The rear also manages to keep the almost razor-thin tail lights, but with a shape that's closer to the new 8 Series.

The images confirm the roadster will feature a folding soft top, and at least the option for some glossy black wheels. We'll have to wait for BMW's official reveal to know more, including a release date, but for now we know the M40i will be the high-end Z4 model, and is expected to arrive with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, with horsepower in the neighborhood of 380.
