Firefox Monitor wants to keep you secure with familiar technology
Everyone should be concerned about keeping their various online identities secure, and today, Firefox made that a little bit easier. Working alongside Have I Been Pwned, today Mozilla launched Firefox Monitor. You can use this to see if your email address has been involved in any security breaches, so in that regard, Firefox Monitor mirrors the functionality of Have I Been Pwned pretty closely.
In fact, Firefox Monitor pulls its breach data directly from Have I Been Pwned, though it reassures users that their email isn't stored when they check it. While this is useful functionality, its something that already exists through Have I Been Pwned, which is a fairly well known site among security-minded internet-goers. Firefox Monitor, essentially, is a good way to get this tool in the hands of more internet users, who may not think to check with Have I Been Pwned regularly.
Firefox Monitor also allows you to go a little bit deeper when it comes to keeping track of your online identities. You can sign up for Firefox Monitor to receive a detailed report on any of your compromised accounts and receive notifications any time your email addresses appear in new data breaches.
The Firefox Monitor site also offers tips on how to beef up your online security. Obviously, keeping a unique password for each account should be priority number one, but beyond that, you can do a number of things that help you out. You can, for instance, use two-factor authentication for websites that offer it, and you can also sign up for a password manager so you don't need to commit all of your different passwords to memory.
Speaking of password managers, we recently saw 1Password strike a similar deal with Have I Been Pwned. 1Password's "Check Password" function appeared earlier this year, and it uses Have I Been Pwned to prevent subscribers from reusing passwords that have appeared in leaks and security breaches. Getting this kind of technology in front of more internet users is definitely a good thing, so head over to Firefox Monitor to check it out for yourself.
