Final Fantasy VII For PS4 Lets You Cheat

Over the weekend, Square Enix finally delivered Final Fantasy VII to the latest generation of consoles. Of course, this isn't the remake that we've all been clamoring for. We did get some news about that version, and a peek at just what it will look like. However, if you're interested in the original, we've got some tips for you.

Gaming has changed a lot since Final Fantasy VII was released to the world. While its gameplay mechanics and graphics seemed revolutionary at the time, those same mechanics can seem clunky by today's standards. With that in mind, there are a few cheats that have been added to the game, to make it a little more palatable for today's gamers.

That's right, they've added cheats to the game. It's rare to see cheats in games these days that don't involve mods, or using the console on a PC. So just what can these cheats do for you? The first one simply speeds up everything 3x. Sometimes the game's pacing can be a bit sluggish, so this takes care of that for you. Nothing really "cheat-worthy" here.

The second of the cheats is where things get good. You can turn on and off random encounters at-will. Sure, you need those encounters to level up, but sometimes you just want to get from A to B without being bothered. The last cheat is the most game-breaking. So you'll only want to reserve it for desperate times. It automatically heals your party, and gives everyone unlimited limit breaks. This is the "god mode" of the game.

These cheats might not seem like anything new, for those that played the iOS version of the game, released earlier this year. They were included in that version of the game as well. If you're wondering how to activate them on your PS4 copy, you'll just need to hold down the thumbsticks and press the following buttons:

  • L3 – speeds the game up by 3x
  • L3+R3 – turns on/off random encounters
  • R3 – Automatically heals the party, and gives unlimited limit breaks
  • VIA: Kotaku
