Ferrari 488 Sport special series details leak

Some slides that are apparently from some sort of Ferrari presentation have leaked and the slides give up some details on a coming Ferrari car. The slides appear to be talking up a higher-performance version of the Ferrari 488. The slides have a title that reads "New V8 Sport Special Series."

Ferrari has a long history of building higher performance versions of some of its cars that are at home on the race track or the streets. It has done this with the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, and 458 Specialie. The blurry slides call out copious used of carbon fiber components for weight reduction.

One slide notes that the car will have the highest amount of carbon fiber used on a Ferrari range car. The slides also promise that the car will have the most powerful V8 engine in Ferrari history. This is a big claim as the current 488 has an impressive twin-turbo V8 under the hood already.

The car has a 3.9L twin-turbo V8 that makes 661 hp. The expectation is for at least 700hp in the new higher performance car. That higher output engine is also said to be 10% lighter than the standard powertrain in the 488. This means more power and less weight equating to better performance all around.

Other tidbits mentioned in the slides include a "race" gearshift and "extremely" direct steering ratio. The car will also sport Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires and a rear diffuser similar to the 488 GTE Le Mans car. The wheels will be made from carbon fiber and 40% lighter than wheels on the base 488.
