Everything Is An Alien In This New Prey Gameplay Trailer
Today we're getting our first extended look at next year's Prey reboot, thanks to a new trailer from Bethesda and Arkane. In the video, Prey creative director Raphael Colantonio and lead designer Ricardo Bare walk us through the opening stages of the game. They show off some of the weapons and powers we'll be able to use, along with a few of the aliens that will hunt us throughout the adventure.
What's particularly interesting about Prey is the aliens' ability to camouflage themselves. We see this used numerous times throughout the walkthrough, with seemingly inanimate objects such as guns and chairs suddenly transforming in aliens when the player character draws near. That opens up the possibility for a bunch of different jump scares, so those with a weak stomach may want to steer clear of this game.
However, you have the ability to use these alien powers as well. In the video, we see Colantonio and Bare use an ability called Mimic to solve environmental puzzles. In one instance, they actually inhabit a coffee cup to move through a small opening. This may be the first game ever that lets you play as a coffee cup.
Instead of a sequel to the 2006 game of the same name, Prey will be a re-imaging of the original title. Once upon a time, Prey 2 was in development, but Bethesda confirmed the cancellation of that title earlier in the year. Check out the video below to see what Arkane's vision for Prey looks like.
Prey is set in the year 2032, and follows an alternate timeline where President Kennedy survived his assassination attempt and continued to pump more money into the United States Space Program. The game plays out on a space station called Talos I, which is orbiting the moon and is under siege by the aliens you see in the trailer. There's no release date yet, but it'll be arriving sometime in spring 2017 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
