Epson Expression Premium XP-810 and XP-610 printers offer Wi-Fi Direct

Epson has announced two new printers that are aimed at families and photo enthusiasts. The new printers include the Epson Expression Premium XP-810 and XP-610 Small-in-One. Both printers use Epson's MicroPiezo printing technology and Claria Premium ink allowing high-quality photos to be printed at home.

One of the most interesting pieces of technology both of these printers support is integrated Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct. If you're not familiar with Wi-Fi Direct, this technology allows you to print wirelessly from certain devices without needing a wireless network in the home or office. The catch with Wi-Fi Direct technology is that both devices have to support the protocol.

If your smartphone or other device doesn't support Wi-Fi Direct, both of these printers also support standard Wi-Fi networking. Other features include integrated memory card slots, dual sided printing, and the ability to correct photographs inside the printer and print to CDs and DVDs. The main difference between the two printers is that the XP-810 has a 30-page Auto Document Feeder and does automatic two-sided copying.

The XP-810 can also scan and fax and features a 3.5-inch touchscreen with gesture navigation. The XP-810 supports 14 ppm print speed for black and 11 ppm print speed for color, while the XP-610 is capable of 13 ppm black and 10 ppm in color. Both can print 4 x 6 borderless photos and both are Energy Star qualified. The XP-810 has an integrated ethernet port as well. The XP-610 will sell for $149.99 with the XP-810 sells for $229.99 with both slated to be available in mid-September.
