Elon Musk shows off his Roadster with "Starman" at the wheel

Elon Musk is the CEO of both Tesla and SpaceX and he is combining both of those companies during the inaugural launch of the first Falcon Heavy rocket. That massive rocket is meant to push larger loads into space and might one day take astronauts into orbit and beyond. For the first launch, the only payload in the nosecone of that rocket will be a sweet car.

Elon Musk has put his own red Tesla Roadster into the nose cone of the rocket and his latest round of images posted to Instagram show something cool behind the wheel. We haven't seen much about the spacesuit that SpaceX is working on since it was first revealed back in September of 2017.

Now sitting behind the wheel of the red Tesla Roadster is what Musk calls a "Starman" which is one of the SpaceX spacesuits. The spacesuit looks like it is out of a Hollywood film rather than something NASA would cook up.

Interestingly, Musk doesn't have very high hopes for the first launch of the Falcon Heavy rocket. He has stated in the past that he would consider it a success if the rocket makes it off the launch pad before exploding. An explosion would mean the spaceman and the cool red Roadster will be strewn all over the launch area.

If the Falcon Heavy ends up in space, the Tesla Roadster will float around out there forever. Part of me is sad that such a cool car will never drive again, but it's hard to think of a cooler payload for the first Falcon Heavy launch. That launch is set for tomorrow.
