Electrolux's smart oven to include camera for monitoring food

Electrolux is planning to release a smart oven that'll bring the same sort of connectivity features we've seen on other appliances to your oven. Chief among them is a camera that'll make the food-monitoring process a remote job, and it'll be joined by a recipe app that is used to pull up instructions on how to cook whatever meal it is that you have planned. The plan itself isn't new — we first heard about Electrolux's concept smart oven in the early fall of 2014. That concept is now set to become a reality, however, and it represents what looks to be a big push for more smart appliances on Electrolux's part.

Electrolux first showed the concept off at IFA last year, revealing a smart appliance equipped with a camera and connectivity features that allow pictures of your food to be snapped during the cooking process and shuttled off to a related smartphone. This would come in handy, for example, to see if the rolls are golden enough or the cheese on the casserole is melted...without getting off the couch.

The related app itself also contains a "Recipe Hub" and other features, like a shopping list and "Oven Control", to make the entire cooking process a bit more modern and less likely to end with burnt dinner. According to Bloomberg, Electrolux has decided to bring that smart oven to the market, though the finer details on this plan aren't yet available.

The oven will be released sometime this year — an exact launch date, market availability, and pricing have not been revealed, however. This looks to be part of an overall effort on Electrolux's to bring smart appliances to the masses. As always, we'll update you when we know more.
