eBay and Sotheby's partner, will live stream auctions

Auction house Sotheby's and eBay have struck a partnership that will see the latter service's online platform being used to auction off goods from Sotheby's live, presenting an opportunity for eBay users to score some coveted antique from the comfort of their desk. This is part of eBay's live auctions platform, and though Sotheby's won't be holding its first auction through the service until the first of April, it is presently up for users to check out and to slip in an advanced bid or two.

During Sotheby's auctioning events, online users will be able to submit bids for whatever is up for grabs, with each items getting up to two minutes of sale time and approximately 40 lots being up for grabs per hour. When an auction is won, the user will then submit a check or bank transfer as payment for the item.

The theme for the first Sotheby's auction to take place on April 1 is "New York Time City Highlights", and will include related items spanning from books to jewelry and even the 1970's Yankee Stadium sign letters. You can get a look at the items up for grabs now, as well as estimates on the price ranges for each item.

Sotheby's seems eager to get things underway, having already discussed the "experience" and other particulars on its own website. Says the auction house, its online store is for both the "curious new buyer" and the "seasoned collector". Many of the items offered online are valued at $25,000 or less.
