Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Controller Coming to the Nintendo Wii

In most cases, a controller that's themed to a particular video game isn't something that we get all that excited about. But, of course, there are notable exceptions. While the TRON-themed controllers caught our eye a couple of months back, we're now forced to rationalize that a Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver is coming down the pipe, and it's headed for the Nintendo Wii. And, we can't pass up Doctor Who things.

The controller was actually leaked before its official announcement. It's due to release with the upcoming Doctor Who: Return to Earth video game, and as you can see from the image, the Wii remote is pretty much an identical replica to the Sonic Screwdriver featured on the show. Blue Ocean is the manufacturing company behind the themed peripheral, and they're actually working on several more themed accessories for the game's release on other consoles, namely the Nintendo DS. Which means, yes, that there will be a Sonic Screwdriver stylus.

But, as you might expect, the Sonic Screwdriver Wii remote seems to have a UK-based launch plan, with no word on a further international release quite yet. Pricing isn't mentioned yet, either, but it sounds like the remote will be made available some time in October.
