DisplayLink blessed with new Vista Aero capabilities
For those of you not in the know, DisplayLink is this new technology that allows you to easily connect up to 6 monitors via USB, no new video card required. Well, up until now, they haven't been able to extend the pretty Aero glass effects and Flip 3D to these monitors, due largely in part to the fact that they don't require a video card.
Well, apparently driver version 4.3, this latest version, includes some sort of hardware virtualization that fools Vista into thinking there is a video card (and there sort of is, but its inside the monitor instead of inside the PC). So, now you can spread your pretty Vista desktop, with Aero effects and everything across up to 6 monitors without having to fork over all that dough for the new 3-way SLI.
The technology also allows video to the played across all 6 displays. The only downside is, this technology apparently has a slight drain on your systems performance, so its clearly not for gaming. Regardless of what OS you are using, or whether you are using Vista at all, the DisplayLink people recommend getting the updated driver if you have a Samsung 940UX USB monitor, Kensington sd200v video dock, or the IOGear USB video card.
