Disney seeks competitors for Nintendo Switch Showdown contest

Disney is getting in on the growing popularity of televised gaming competitions with its own contest. The company is seeking families who want to compete in its Nintendo Switch Family Showdown, a competition where four families will travel to Los Angeles and spend one day battling it out.

The competition will be aired on Disney XD and the Disney Channel starting on August 27; it'll also be accessible through the DisneyNOW app on the same day. Four selected families will be sent to Los Angeles, where they'll spend a few days total.

Disney is encouraging interested families to apply for the contest by sending it a video explaining "why you and your family are the ultimately Nintendo fans!" The company will review these, ultimately choosing four families who will fly to LA where they'll stay from August 3 to August 5; the tournament happens on August 4.

The minimum age to enter the contest is 6-years-old and the maximum is 18-years-old; minors must get parental permission and competing families are limited to up to four individuals. As well, applicants must be located in the US and, obviously, be willing to travel to California if chosen.

It isn't clear which games the competition will involve, nor the particulars of the contest, though it ultimately seems like it's meant to be a fun esports-light sort of event for kids to watch on TV. Disney does have a bunch of rules that go along with the competition, all of which you can read here.
