DirectX 12 To Be Detailed At GDC
Today on what appears to be a newly launched Twitter account, a tweet was fired out under the handle @DirectX12 reading "Rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated... #DirectX12 is coming to #GDC". The tweet linked to a sparse page promising details at GDC later this month.
A quick trek through the GDC website reveals a touch more about Microsoft's upcoming presentation, with the session slated as "DirectX: Evolving Microsoft's Graphics Platform", followed by a short description slipping in mention of DirectX's near two decades of work.
Says Windows Graphics Development Manager Anuj Gosalia, "...you asked us to do more. You asked us to bring you even closer to the metal and to do so on an unparalleled assortment of hardware. You also asked us for better tools so that you can squeeze every last drop of performance out of your PC, tablet, phone and console."
According to the GDC website, Microsoft also has another presentation planned for the same day — March 20 — titled "DirectX: Direct3D Futures", with the listing being by Development Lead Max McMullen, who says, "In this session we will discuss future improvements in Direct3D that will allow developers an unprecedented level of hardware control and reduced CPU rendering overhead across a broad ecosystem of hardware."
