Diablo animated series in 'final talks' for original Netflix launch

Netflix is gearing up to launch an original animated series based on the popular Diablo video game franchise, according to a newly published tweet. The tip comes from Boom! Studios founder Andrew "Andy" Cosby, who published a brief statement on his Twitter account. According to it, Cosby and Netflix are in "final talks" over the series.Diablo is a multi-game franchise dating back to the 1990s, one following a world in which the player takes on the Lord of Terror. The player is tasked with navigating various dungeon levels, each taking them closer to Hell and Diablo. The series has proven very popular, including multiple releases up to last year's Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer.

According to Cosby's tweet published late last week, "I guess I can confirm I am indeed in final talks to write and show-run the new DIABLO animated series for Activision and Netflix. It's very exciting and I hope to the High Heavens it all works out."

The way it is phrased makes it clear this series isn't a guaranteed product at this point; it seems possible the deal could fall through with nothing coming of it. However, 'final talks' indicates the new series is likely to happen; Netflix will no doubt make its own announcement if the project proceeds.

It should be noted that at some point after tweeting the news, Cosby deleted the message, apparently meaning he wasn't allowed to share the news as first suggested. One could reasonably assume that the deletion means the companies will have their own official unveiling in the near future, though many details remain unclear.
