Devialet Phantom Reactor is a tiny speaker that packs a lot of punch

It's been a little while since we last heard from Devialet's Phantom line of speakers, but today it's getting a rather exciting expansion. Today, Devialet announced the Phantom Reactor series, which is comprised of two speakers at lower price points than the products in the mainline Phantom series. A new, lower price point is exciting enough for a company that has made a name for itself selling expensive speakers, but perhaps even more noteworthy is the smaller size of the Phantom Reactor speakers.

Devialet says that its two Phantom Reactor speakers are four times smaller than the original Phantom speakers, with a total volume of three liters and a weight of 10 pounds. That Devialet would launch a smaller Phantom shouldn't be much of a surprise, as it said back in 2016 that it had gained insight into creating smaller speakers as it was developing the Phantom Gold.

The two speakers in the new line include the Phantom Reactor 600 and Reactor 900, which respectively offer 600W and 900W of power. That's significantly less than the 4,500W afforded by the Phantom Gold, but going toe-to-toe with existing Phantom speakers isn't really Devialet's goal with the Reactor. Instead, the goal is to offer "unreasonable power" at a lower price, as the Reactor series begins at $999 for the 600 and goes up to $1,299 for the 900. The main Phantom line – re-branded as Phantom Premier with the launch of these Reactor speakers – starts at $1,690.

Both speakers in the Reactor line offer a frequency range of 18Hz to 21KHz, with sound pressure levels topping out at 95 dB SPL in the Reactor 600 and 98 dB SPL in the Reactor 900. Both speakers also make use of a variety of Devialet technologies, including Speaker Active Matching and Heart Bass Implosion. As far as connectivity is concerned, you've got quite a few options, including Spotify Connect, Bluetooth, Airplay, UPnP, along with both analog and optical audio jacks.

Devialet will open up pre-orders for the Phantom Reactor line on October 24. Pre-orders will be available at Devialet's website and through Amazon, though the speaker will also be carried at a number of other retailers including Microsoft, Nordstrom, and Mr. Porter. No actual release date has been announced yet, but we'll likely find out more once pre-orders open up, so stay tuned.
