Cubestormer 3 Robot sets Rubik's Cube record
Before you can finish reading the title of this post and this sentence, The Cubestormer 3 Robot would have solved the Rubik's Cube puzzle about three times or more. Bazinga! This is no prank, but the honest truth, and those who attended the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham, UK, got a chance to catch the action live. For simple folks like us at home, we do have a YouTube video that shows you how the cube was solved in 3.253 seconds flat.
Cubestormer 3 is a true genius robot that – when it comes to Cube-shuffling – works faster than the human mind and body or any other robot around. David Gilday and Mike Dobson sired this baby and it's the third-generation robot to be built by these co-inventors. Speed, at which the robot solves the Cube, is the crux of the invention. The predecessor, Cubestormer 2, could solve the Rubik's Cube in 5.27 seconds. This is exactly 0.28 seconds faster than the human record.
This latest upgrade is ARM-powered and has the EV3 parts, which make it super fast. The soul of Samsung Galaxy S4 with Exynos octa-core processor and four Cortex-A15 and four Cortex-A7 processors, form the superpower of the robot. These elements end up controlling eight Lego Mindstorms actuators.
This is how the Cube is solved: the entire system is hooked to the smartphone, which in turn comprehends the setting of the Cube's arrangement. It then 'instructs' the four arms how to move, in order to solve the puzzle. Since this is a robot using the Rubik's Cube, a speed cube is used that allows it to move the sides seamlessly.
