Craigslist update may be on the way

When it comes time to sell your junk there are generally two places that people go. The first is eBay, but you have to pay their atrocious fees on many items. The next is craigslist, where selling things is free, but you have to deal with what may be the one the most outdated user interfaces around for a large website. A job listing has turned up on craigslist for craigslist that hints changes may be coming.

The job listing is for a senior UI/usability/front end engineer at craigslist.org. I think anyone that has used the service would agree that it is due for a significant upgrade. It's amazing to me that so many people use craigslist and it still looks like something from the early days of the Internet. The ad seeks a worker who can make craigslist faster, friendlier, and easier with the ability to develop new products and features.

I wager the changes to craigslist will come very slowly considering how popular the website is with its current interface. Craigslist reportedly has about 50 million classified postings, and 30 billion page views a month. That is a lot of traffic.
