Community cancellation nixed with Yahoo onboard
Fears that the television hit Community was about to be put out to pasture can officially be put to rest: Yahoo has swept in and nabbed the series, effectively guaranteeing it for its sixth season and possibly more in the future.
Yahoo's entrance happened after original talks with Hulu went nowhere, and literally with only hours remaining on the casts' contracts before they expired. The series' creator Dan Harmon and the full cast are still present and all will continue on as usual.
Other details are sparse at the moment, with the deal still be new and fresh. Both Harmon and Yahoo, among others, have expressed happiness at the business movie, with Harmon saying that he is "very pleased" and Yahoo's CMO Kathy Savitt saying, "We couldn't be more excited to work with Dan, Joel, and the entire cast, as well as Sony, to deliver a great season 6."
As mentioned, the casts' contracts were set to expire today (June 30), and Sony was scrambling to find the series' a new home. Hulu had presented a brief glimmer of hope, and at the same time sources had cropped up to say that an unnamed buyer had also expressed interest in the series — whether that was Yahoo isn't known, though it seems likely.
