CoinGuard security system uses quarter-size sensors
No connected home is complete without a security system of some sort, the likes of which have transformed over the years into something you can monitor from your most convenient mobile device. CoinGuard is one such connected security setup, and though not unique in function, it is notable for the size of its sensors. Staying true to its name, the CoinGuard sensors measure in just a bit bigger than a quarter, making them small enough to tag just about any device in your home, whether it's a door or a cookie jar.
CoinGuard is hailed as being very simple to use, detecting motion and vibration, which sends an alert to a connected smartphone or tablet. As an example, you can put the CoinGuard onto the bottom of a door to get an alert when it is opened.
It works in conjunction with a base station of sorts, which is connected to the network and to the CoinGuard sensors. The sensors have replaceable batteries, which will run for over a year, and can work up to 100 meters away from the base unit.
CoinGuard only recently launched on Kickstarter, where the company behind it, Pilot Labs of San Diego, is hoping to raise at least $100,000 USD. So far, 65 backers have pledged $4,081, and 29 days remain. A pledge of $45 will get you a single CoinGuard; delivery is slated for this December.
