Civilization VI lands on iPhone with a big discount
In the two years since its launched, Civilization VI has made its way to a few different platforms beyond PC. First, the game made its debut on iPad, then we learned a little while back that it will soon come to Nintendo Switch as well. In keeping with the mobile theme of these ports, Civilization VI is launching today on iPhone.
Though it's hard to imagine a complex game like Civilization VI working well on a small mobile display, its turned-based gameplay does translate pretty well to mobile devices. Unfortunately, it seems that the iPhone version has kept the hefty price tag of the iPad version, as it'll set you back a full $60.
Obviously, you'll be able to download the iPhone version for free if you already own the game on iPad, but everyone else can get the iPhone version at a discount by buying early. For the next several days Civilization VI for iPhone is down to $24 as part of a launch promotion, which means that the game is more than half off.
While $24 is still probably more than most people are used to paying for mobile apps and games, Civilization VI could well be worth the (reduced) cost if you're fan of its turn-based strategy gameplay. We named the PC version one of the best games of 2016, and its first expansion, Rise and Fall, makes things even better. Rise and Fall isn't available on iPhone and iPad yet (with no word on if a mobile port will ever be made), but you can purchase DLC that adds new playable civilizations to the game.
If you want to pick up Civilization VI for iPhone at its $24 price point, you've got until October 16 to do so. The game is actually free to download and start, but you'll hit a paywall once you get a few dozen turns into a match. You can download Civilization VI from the iOS App Store today [download].
