CAT S50C packs a 4.7-inch screen in a dust and waterproof package

CAT has launched a new ruggedized smartphone called the S50c. This is an updated version of the original CAT S50 that we talked about back in September of 2014 with lots of updated specifications. The S50c is a rugged device designed to meet military standards. It can survive drops from up to 3.9-feet in the air.

It also has IP67 certification for surviving exposure to dust and water up to 3.3-feet deep. The 4.7-inch screen is covered with Gorilla Glass and is operable by users with gloves up to 4mm thick. The screen will even work with wet hands and in the rain or snow.

The S50c supports push to talk tech and has a 2GHz processor. That chip is mated with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. Power comes from a 2630mAh battery and the smartphone operates on the Verizon 4G network.

The smartphone is aimed at people who work outside in harsh conditions such as rescue services, construction, ski patrol, and for outdoor enthusiasts. The smartphone launched on January 14 and is available from Ingram Micro and authorized Verizon Wireless Agents for $399.99.
