Cadence of Hyrule brings Zelda and Link to Crypt of the Necrodancer

Crypt of the Necrodancer is one of the most beloved indie games around, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise to hear that a follow-up was announced during today's Nindies Showcase. The nature of that follow-up might surprise you, though, as this game is set to feature characters from The Legend of Zelda. Cadence of Hyrule is the name of this new game, and it'll be arriving later this year on Switch.

We don't know a whole lot about Cadence of Hyrule just yet. That's par for the course for games revealed during these Showcases, as Nintendo likes to keep the details light and let the trailers do the talking. While that works for rapid fire reveal events, it means we're stuck waiting for additional information.

Still, the trailer did give some things away. The game's full name is Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the Necrodancer ft. The Legend of Zelda, which is quite the mouthful. This also looks to be an entirely new game – not one where characters from The Legend of Zelda are added to the existing Crypt of the Necrodancer as DLC.

Indeed, Cadence of Hyrule has a distinct aesthetic that brings to mind the classic top-down Zelda games of yore. The trailer seems to confirm both Link and Zelda as playable characters, but we're not sure if other characters from the Zelda series will make an appearance. It looks like we'll just have to wait on developer Brace Yourself Games to reveal more information on that front.

We probably won't be waiting long, as Cadence of Hyrule is scheduled to launch on Switch this spring. That means more details should be coming around the bend soon, so we'll keep an eye out for more. Stay tuned.
