Boxee Beta lands on Apple TV

Its creators may not quite know what to do with the Apple TV, but over at Boxee there’s no such confusion.  The media center software has long been a popular hack for the Apple set-top box, but after the company launched their new beta recently the Apple TV was pretty much left out in the cold; now, though, there’s a new way to install it that’s even more straightforward than before.

The new instructions resurrect the old Boxee Launcher, SoftwareMenu and Creator, and put all the necessary installation gubbins onto a single USB memory stick.  That stick has to be made bootable with ATVUSB-Creator, but once you’ve done that it’s a simple matter of restarting the Apple TV with it in place and following a few instructions.

End result are new Boxee and XBMC options on the main menu, which allow you full access to the media app.  If you’ve already got the Boxee Alpha running on your box it’s apparently even easier; head over here to find out more.
