B&O unveils the Beolit 12 AirPlay portable audio system

Bang & Olufsen has launched a portable audio system called the Beolit 12 that supports Apple's AirPlay technology for wireless streaming. Unlike the company's other luxury audio solutions, the Beolit 12 is launched through the company's new brand, B&O PLAY, which puts cutting-edge sound quality into more playful and portable products.

The Beolit 12 features a very compact form, designed by designer Cecilie Manz. It follows in the success of the BeoSound 8 system that offered docking for iPads, iPods, and iPhones along with premium sound, craftsmanship, and portability. With the Beolit 12, the company hopes to appeal to both its Bang & Olufsen following as well as to a wider audience with the system's fashion-forward design, convenience, and price point.

The system supports Apple's AirPlay technology, allowing users to wirelessly stream their iTunes music collections from their iPod, iPhone, iPad, Mac, or PC. It also has a built-in power supply, rechargeable battery, and easily tucked away power cord for portability. At normal sound levels, the rechargeable battery can charge another device, such as an iPhone, and play back music simultaneously for up to 8 hours.

The Beolit 12 is set to arrive in Bang & Olufsen showrooms, the company's online store, and in Apple Stores later this month. It will be available initially in dark gray, with additional colors of yellow, blue, and light gray to arrive in spring.
