BMW showed off X3 M and X4 M models at the Nürburgring

BMW and a litany of other automakers like to test their cars at the famed Nürburgring in Germany. It's sort of a badge of honor to say that your performance cars were tested and tuned on that famous track. It's not only cars that get tested there, on occasion performance-oriented SUVs get in on the action there as well.

BMW took its performance-focused X3 M and X4 M models there over the weekend to be test driven at the circuit. The laps in the coming rides were during the DTM race weekend at the track that ran through yesterday. The versions of the X3 and X4 M models at the track were camouflaged pre-series vehicles.

The laps around the track were the first public appearance for both models. Both rides use a straight-six engine with M TwinPower Turbo tech designed to rev high. BMW says that the Nürburgring testing was to tune the M xDrive tech that first appeared in the M5. This tuning had a goal of guaranteeing maximum traction and loss-free distribution of drive torque.

BMW reckons that its tuning combined with the active M rear axle differential, cornering dynamics, agility, and precision in driving make the X3 M and X4 M unrivaled by the competition. These rides will slot into the mid-range premium class.

Crossovers and SUVs are huge sellers right now and BMW's new rides are anticipated by fans. BMW says that with all its efforts poured into these cars, they will set the benchmarks for their classes. We talked about the 2018 version (pictured) of the X3 when it launched last year.
