Blizzard's Overwatch Surges To Over 30 Million Players
Overwatch, the recent FPS from developer Blizzard, has been a bona fide smash hit since its release almost a year ago. And for good reason: it's one of the most original and exciting multiplayer games to along in some time, and it's full of refreshing characters and balanced mechanics. Players around the globe seem to agree, as Blizzard has revealed the game now has over 30 million registered players.
Available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Overwatch has shown an impressive continuous growth since it was released in May 2016. The game hit the 20 million users mark back in October, added another 5 million by January, and yet another 5 million in the three months that followed. Not bad for a title with no single-player campaign or free-to-play components.
More than 30 million players have charged into Overwatch!
Thanks for grouping up with us, heroes. We couldn't ask for a better team. 💙 pic.twitter.com/j2lRsUtpnd

Of course, this growing user base includes plenty of newer players, myself included, who can only succeed at maining Mercy and helping Bastion and D.va players rack up the kill streaks. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
Overwatch's most recent in-game event, Uprising, is coming to an end in just a few days, so players should act quick if they want a chance at exclusive loot box items. Fans of Blizzard games in general should also take note of the recent update to Heroes of the Storm. The MOBA title now has a limited time cross-over event with Overwatch, where players can unlock cool skins for D.va and Genji.
