BlackBerry DTEK60 unofficially poses for the camera

BlackBerry's third fully Android smartphone, and probably its last for the year, is perhaps the strangest yet. Not exactly in terms of specs but in the price for those specs. Although related to the already launched DTEK50 by name, it is pretty much a high-end beast, at least based on BlackBerry's own spec sheet. At the same time, however, the company might actually be putting a price tag that's lower than equivalent smartphones this year.

First, the raw data. The DTEK60, codenamed "Argon", was leaked to run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, not the more recent 821, with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable internal storage. Like the DTEK50 and unlike the PRIV, the DTEK60 sports no physical keyboard and instead has a full 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a 2560x1440 pixel resolution. It is powered by a large-ish 3,000 mAh battery, supporting Quick Charge 3.0.

In terms of design, the DTEK50 and DTEK60 are nearly identical save in size and in rear. The larger 21 megapixel camera is right at the center and beneath it is a fingerprint scanner absent in the older smartphone. And despite the larger battery, the DTEK60 is believed to have a slimmer profile, at only 7 mm thick.

Those are definitely high-end specs for 2016, which would imply a matching high-end price. Apparently not, or at least not completely. While not exactly the 450 CAD of the DTEK50, the DTEK60 will reportedly sell for 699 CAD ($530), which is still considerably lower than its contemporaries.
