Black Panther Box Office Records Bash: Check Em!

Black Panther's opening weekend cemented the movie in the record books, not just amongst superhero movies, but in film history. Black Panther was named #1 for opening weekends in February as well as Winter as a season (adjusted and non-adjusted). This film also took home the honor of 5th-largest opening weekend for a film, ever. Numbers 1-4 were Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jurassic World, and Marvel's The Avengers.

Black Panther is currently just ahead of Avengers: Age of Ultron for Opening Weekends. Black Panther had an opening weekend at $201,797,000 USD, while Avengers: Age of Ultron brought in $191,271,109. Black Panther missed out on the 4th spot by just under $6-million. To find a film on the biggest opening weekend list with fewer theaters, you'd have to go down to number 18. That's the film Furious 7 with 4,004 theaters and $147,187,040 on opening weekend while Black Panther had 4,020 theaters.

Adjusting the Opening Weekends box office list for average cash per theater, Black Panther is in a comfortable 3rd place. That's just behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Both Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Black Panther are still in the theater, so this list may change.

Black Panther already made more than a third of the cash made by Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and not quite a third of what was made, total gross, by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If Black Panther continues to perform well, it's not impossible for it to out-perform these Star Wars films by the time it's out of theaters.

Black Panther is number 5 on each of the following: Fastest to $100 million, Fastest to $150 million, and Fastest to $200 million. Each of the other entries on the Fastest to $200 million in front of Black Panther all had the same number of days: 3. Avengers: Age of Ultron took 4 days to get to $200 million.

Each of the other top Marvel Cinematic Universe films to top lists were released in May: Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Avengers, and Captain America 3: Civil War. The majority of this information was gathered via BoxOfficeMojo. Check back for updates if you do so wish it.
