Bing apps integrate GasBuddy, add shopping tools

Microsoft has pushed out what it says are "major updates" for both the Bing Android and iPhone apps. Firstly, the Bing App for iPhone introduced in November has arrived on Android, and both apps are getting new features over past iterations. Among other things, Microsoft has announced the apps bring a new integration with GasBuddy, making it easier to find cheap gas wherever a user happens to be. iPhone users are also getting something special — dedicated deals including both coupons and offers, a feature that will arrive later on Android.

Both apps, which are available as of now, bring a price comparison tool for scanning a product's barcode and seeing pricing comparisons for the product from various retailers where it is available, such as Amazon and Walmart. The tool also dishes up ratings from existing customers.

For iPhone 6S and 6S Plus users, there's a Force Touch feature on the Bing app icon for pulling up the barcode scanner sans opening the app. Other users can find the feature under the Deals menu, or by long-pressing the icon in Android. That aforementioned Deals menu is specifically for iPhone, and it brings dedicated deals from various companies, such as discounts on meals or products and promotions. This feature will arrive on Android "soon," but Microsoft doesn't elaborate on when.

As mentioned, there's also the new GasBuddy integration, which presents nearby gas stations, their locations, directions, phone numbers and gas prices. The feature is available under both "Near Me" and by searching for "gas." Both apps are available now in the app stores.
