Big Ford GT announcement coming at Goodwood

Ford is talking up what it will be doing at the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK next month. The big thing for Ford is a special announcement having to do with the Ford GT sports car. Ford Performance's Hermann Salenbauch and Multimatic's Larry Holt will make the special Ford GT announcement. The announcement will happen at 4:45 am EDT on July 4 at Goodwood. Ford is coy about the announcement with no details on what it will talk about other than the lone teaser image you see here. The thought it this might be a new Ford GT street car; it might be a new racer as well.

The image shows a car with a large rear spoiler with bigger end plates than other Ford GT racers we have seen. The silhouette also shows a larger roof-mounted air intake than we have seen. The headlights look more like production Ford GT units than what is seen on race cars.

Ford has also announced that the 2020 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 will be at the event to make its UK debut along with the all-new Focus ST. We hope to see the GT500 take on the hill climb. Ford will also have the #66 Ford GT race car fresh from the Le Mans 24 Hours race. Ford's M-sport Ford World Rally Team Fiesta WRC car will take on the Goodwood rally stage.

The 2018 NASCAR winning Team Penske Ford Fusion will be at the event along with a classic 1980 Ford Zakspeed Turbo Capri racing car. Driver Vaughn Gittin Jr and his RTR Mustang, as well as Ken Block's Hoonitruck and Escort RS Cosworth, will be in attendance. The Ranger Raptor truck will demonstrate its capability in an off-road experience.
