Bethesda at E3 2019: new games and updates coming

It's that time of year again for the gaming industry to have their time in the spotlight. Microsoft fired the opening salvo and Bethesda followed with guns blazing. Its new Orion game streaming tech and DOOM Eternal details might be the biggest news on its portfolio but they are far from being the only ones. Be it upcoming games or updates to existing ones or even remakes of old favorites, Bethesda has something in store for gamers in the coming months.

DOOM isn't id Software's only landmark franchise. Wolfenstein, controversial as the theme might have been, is just as monumental in gaming history. Finally getting a long-overdue sequel, Wolfenstein: Youngblood is set in an alternate history where the Nazis won and occupied Paris in the 80s. Players get to play together as twins Jess and Soph or team up with an AI to complete missions and search for their father, the original game's protagonist BJ Blazkowicz. Wolfenstein: Youngblood launches July 26.

Fewer and fewer gamers today will probably remember the wacky platformer that was Commander Keen, which is why Bethesda is bringing that spirit to mobile. Now players get to be kid twin geniuses Billy and Billie as they gear up, level up, and jump up across the universe. Bur those who prefer to pit their strength against other kid geniuses, Commander Keen has a real-time Battle Mode as well. The mobile game, ZeniMax Online Studio's first, will launch sometime in summer on iPhones, iPads, and Android devices.

And for something coming not so soon, Bethesda is teasing a new game from the makers of The Evil Within. This time, Tango Gameworks is moving from survival horror to action-adventure. In GhostWire: Tokyo, you get to use your supernatural abilities to unravel the mysteries behind disappearances in Japan's capital. No date yet for this title, though.

Battle royales are all the rage these days, dethroning MOBAs in the battle for dominance. So it's no surprise the Bethesda is getting into that, though with a slight twist. Fallout 76 is adding a Nuclear Winder (no relation to GoT) that pits 52 players against each other in a battle to be Vault 51's next Overseer and get access to more of the Vault's content.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades isn't Bethesda's only TES title sharing the E3 stage, of course. There's also an updated to the Legends card game as well as Elder Scrolls Online, which continues to make a profit in an age where MMORPGs have mostly fallen out of fashion. Be sure to keep tabs on our E3 2019 coverage in the coming days to see what else developers, publishers, and console makers have in store for gamers in the months ahead.
