Avengers: Infinity War Characters: Where were Ant-Man and Hawkeye?

Today we're having a peek at Avengers: Infinity War from a post-viewing perspective, with specific regard to Ant-Man. Perhaps the biggest questions we've got about the film center on the characters that did not make it into the film. Why not Ant-Man? Why would Marvel spend so much time setting Ant-Man up with previous appearances to keep him out of this major motion picture? A motion picture that, might I mention, features basically every other hero we've seen in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie over the past 10 years.

Mentioned or implied but not seen:

1. Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd)

2. Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner)

Both Ant-Man and Hawkeye are mentioned in Infinity War by Black Widow. She suggests that they both – both of them being family men – made deals with the government to stay out of the public eye and at home, where it's safe. This is implied to have happened some time after Captain America: Civil War ended, but before Avengers: Infinity War began.

Ant-Man might also be doing some business in the Quantum Realm. In the trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp released today, some clues are dropped. It would seem that since Paul Rudd entered the Quantum Realm in the first Ant-Man movie – and came back – they decided they'd go for another visit. So Hope van Dyne and Scott Lang's aim – at least at the start of the new movie – is getting down in there all tiny-like.

They'll both be back

There's little possibility that Ant-Man and Hawkeye won't be back to play major roles in Avengers 4 (whatever's after Infinity War). While I'm not sure what Hawkeye will do, really, he's an integral part of this universe's soup – and he's not been forgotten by the film's creators. ALSO: Rumor has it there'll be some changes made for the Hawkeye character – with special regard to a timeline in which Scarlett Witch sent him to an alternate dimension where he became RONIN! Cross your fingers and hope for nunchucks.

Check out the following video for an easy-to-digest explanation of who Ronin is and what he might be doing soon. This video hypothesizes Renner's back in Infinity War, which didn't end up happening, but it's still legit.

Below you'll see some pretty convincing leaked evidence that Renner's character's transformed into something new altogether. Look at that silly haircut! Behold those kneepads!

Ant-Man's gonna pop back up and serve up some science, of that you can be sure. Ant-Man has the ability to shrink down to sub-molecular levels and up to massive building-scale sizes. He'll either be smashing or discombobulating the forces of evil come 2019.

The sequel to Avengers: Infinity War will take place after (and before?) the end of this film. The sequel is as-yet untitled as of the first publishing of this article. This movie will be released on May 3rd, 2019.
