AT&T WatchTV low-cost live television streaming service revealed

AT&T has announced the upcoming launch of WatchTV, its new live television streaming service. The platform, which offers more than 30 livestreaming TV channels, will be included with a pair of unlimited plans set to roll out next week. Called Unlimited & More and Unlimited & More Premium, both include unlimited high-speed data with extra perks tossed in.

WatchTV is, like DirectTV NOW, YouTube TV, and similar offerings, a way to watch live TV channels over the Internet. Unlike those competing services, though, WatchTV has two big differences: it is only $15/month, making it the cheapest option thus far, and it has less channels than multiple other services.

Channels available under WatchTV are primarily big and well-known offerings, however, including things like Boomerang, A&E, TLC, Food Network, CNN, BBC America, Hallmark, TNT, and Cartoon Network. The company plans to add a few more "soon" after WatchTV launches, those additions including Nick Toons, Teen Nick, and Comedy Central, among others.

WatchTV is app-based and will be available on "virtually every" mobile device, as well as through web browsers and some streaming devices. It hasn't provided an exact list of supported devices at this time, however. In addition to the live content, WatchTV will also include more than 15,000 pieces of on-demand content.

Next week, AT&T will launch the two aforementioned unlimited plans, both of which will include WatchTV as a free bundled service. The Unlimited & More Premium plan will also offer customers a second streaming service of their choice, such as HBO. The Premium plan also includes 15GB of high-speed tethering and support for "high-quality video."

Unlimited & More will be $70/month | Unlimited & More Premium will be $80/month. It isn't clear when WatchTV will be available for anyone to sign up.
