AT&T gives free South Korea roaming during Olympics in jab back at T-Mobile

AT&T has announced its own perk for customers attending the 2018 Winter Olympics: a free International Day Pass starting on February 1 and lasting through March 20. This announcement follows T-Mobile's own Olympics perk announcement during which time it revealed that customers will get free unlimited high-speed data and calls while in South Korea.

During its announcement, T-Mobile had taken jabs at its big competitors, including AT&T, pointing out how expensive it would be to purchase the carrier's international roaming service package. AT&T has returned with a counter jab, saying that its customers will get free international service during the Olympics.

AT&T's International Day Pass typically costs $10/day — that would work out to a substantial cost if someone were staying in South Korea for the entire duration of the Winter Games. However, AT&T customers who sign up for the International Day Pass will have the fees waived if they're traveling to South Korea.

The promotion is available to Mobile Share and Unlimited plan subscribers who sign up for the International Day Pass. This is a special offer that is available during the days mentioned above, but not past March 20. Under the pass, users can also make unlimited calls to the United States.

As far as data goes, the Day Pass provides the user with the amount of data they'd get on their plan if they were home. Keep in mind that with AT&T, if you have apps that run in the background on your phone and use up data, you'll be hit with the daily $10/day fee, so be sure to sign up to get the free roaming perk (if you're going to South Korea, that is).
