ASUS Zenbook UX301 And UX302 Announced, Featuring Scratch-Proof Lids
Going for a toughness both inside and outside, ASUS has unveiled two new ultrabook flagships from its Zenbook line, the Zenbook UX301 and the Zenbook UX302. Both devices sport lids layered with Gorilla Glass 3 that not only gives it a high-gloss look but also protects it from the wear and tear of everyday use.
Corning's new Gorilla Glass 3 is just as thin as its Gorilla Glass 2. What makes it different is the proprietary Native Damage Resistance (NDR) technology that improves the Gorilla Glass 3's scratch resistance, up to three times more than the previous generation. It also offers a 40% reduction in the visibility of scratches and, if deep scratches do occur, Gorilla Glass 3's improved strength retention will make sure that damage will be kept to a minimum.
ASUS will be offering several configuration options for the new Zenbook ultrabooks. The 13.3-inch displays have a starting 1920x1080 Full HD resolution but can be upgraded to 2560x1440 WQHD. Both will be utilizing IPS display technology and have a 178-degree viewing angle. The Zenbook will be powered by Intel's 4th generation Intel Core Haswell processors, with an option for a high-end dual-core Core i7-4558U. Buyers will also have a choice between Intel's new Iris graphics chip or NVIDIA's GeForce GT 730M GPU. There is also an option for a 512GB RAID0 SSD storage.
Whatever the configuration mix, the Zenbook UX301 and UX302 will have several standard features such as 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0. and USB 3.0 connectivity. Both will also sport keyboards with automatic backlight level control and large touchpads with Windows 8 gesture support. ASUS is, of course, also including its own SonicMaster audio technology. The Zenbook's trademark metallic "spun" metal design will still adorn the ultrabooks' exterior.
The ASUS Zenbook UX301 will come in Moonstone White and Sapphire Blue, while there is no word if the Zenbook UX302 will be have additional color options. ASUS has not given any details as to when the new Zenbooks will hit the market and how much they will cost.
