Asus PadFone Mini debuts in Taiwain and Padfone heads to US in Q2

Asus officially announced its new PadFone Mini smartphone in Taiwan this week. The smartphone has a 4.3-inch screen with a native resolution of 960 x 540. The chip inside the smartphone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 paired with 1GB of RAM. Internal storage is 16GB.

Like most Android smartphones, the PadFone Mini supports storage expansion with memory cards. The smartphone features an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for video conferencing. The big feature of the PadFone mini, like previous devices in the range, is the tablet dock. The dock has its own 7-inch screen.

The resolution of the dock screen is 1280 x 800. The tablet dock has its own 2200 mAh battery. It's unclear exactly when the PadFone Mini will be available to purchase in Taiwan. Rumors suggest the price will be 11,900 NTD or about $400 in the US.

Interestingly, Engadget is reporting that the PadFone will be coming to the US in Q2 of 2014. The tip on the US launch date for the device came by way of Asus CEO Jerry Shen.
