Astronaut ordered pizza in space before returning to Earth

When far away from home, it's not unusual to crave familiar foods you can't get at the moment. That experience isn't limited to Earth travel, but also includes astronauts in space, particularly those living in the cramped quarters of the International Space Station. During a recent interview, one astronaut revealed that he'd ordered a pizza while still in space to make sure it'd be ready when he got back to Earth.READ: ISS crew video shows how to make and eat pizza in space

The revelation was made by NASA astronaut Mike Massimino following a recent screening of One Strange Rock, a National Geographic documentary about space travel. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't love pizza, and that's apparently true among astronauts, too.

Massimino likes pizza, and though the ISS now offers its own version of the dish, it's not quite the same as the real thing. Such was the pizza lust that, upon his return home, Massimino ordered a pie from the space shuttle while on his way back down to Earth. The story was relayed by Space.com.

As mentioned, astronauts can now eat pizza in space. Back in December, the ISS crew were featured in a video showing them assembling small personal pizzas while in microgravity (hit up the link above to see it for yourself!). As you'd imagine, making a pizza in space is a bit different than making one on Earth. Among other things, the crew has to cut their pies using a pair of scissors instead of a cutting wheel.
