Android Pay Expands: 40 US Banks And Credit Unions Add Support

Android Pay just got a bit more capable thanks to the addition of support for another 40 banks and credit unions located throughout the United States. Given that all the major banks support the Android Pay platform by now (in the U.S., at least), it isn't surprising that this latest expansion marks the addition of many smaller, more regional and lesser known entities.

If you've been crossing your fingers for your local credit union or small bank to support Android Pay, today may be your lucky day. The service has just added more banks and CUs to the supported list, among them being things like Southwest Missouri Bank, United Federal Credit Union, PointBank, American Heritage FCU, Emprise Bank, Kansas State University's Federal Credit Union, and more (full list below).

Of course, if you're with a big bank like Chase, Bank of America, or even 'big' regional banks like Fifth Third, you already have Android Pay support and likely have for a while now. Still, the expansion is a welcomed one, particularly due to the high number of credit unions on the list, helping cast a wider net across the various financial services Android users may be using.

Android Pay itself remains only one of three major options consumers are using at the moment, the other two being Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Looking specifically at the latter of the two, Samsung Pay has itself seen some big changes recently, such as getting support for Discover. Rumors indicate that Samsung is considering expanding its mobile payment platform to support top-tier phones from other companies, making it a viable option for many Android users who only have Android Pay at the moment.
