AMC Stubs A-List MoviePass alternative price hike arrives in January

AMC's popular MoviePass alternative "Stubs A-List" is enjoying a surge in signups, with the company revealing that it has hit its 12-month membership target in less than five months. Joining its announcement is a small change in plans: AMC will increase the service's price for customers in certain states starting early next year. Anyone who signs up before then will enjoy the lower price for a full 12 months, though.

MoviePass is effectively dead in the eyes of some now-former customers, but select alternatives have risen in its place to offer something similar. One of those services is AMC Stubs A-List, a plan that allows customers to see up to three movies every week, including premium ones like IMAX and Dolby Cinema.

The serivce currently sits at $19.95 USD and will continue to do so for the rest of the year. Starting on January 9, 2019, AMC will increase the subscription price for customers in certain states, the increase depending on where the customer is located.

Subscribers in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York will soon pay $23.95/month for the plan, while customers in the following states will pay $21.95/month: Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington state and The District of Columbia.

There is a potential reprieve, though, with AMC saying that it will continue to charge $19.95/month to customers who sign up for A-List before January 9, 2019. That price will be honored for 12 months starting from the day they subscribe, so someone who joins on December 1, 2018, for example, will lock in that rate until December 1, 2019.
