Amazon's 'The Tick' series is officially dead, won't find new home

In 2016, Amazon released the first episode in an original series called The Tick, the character's first arrival on television since the previous FOX series launched in 2001. The show received a full first season and earned fairly high ratings from both viewers and critics. Despite that, The Tick's creator has confirmed the series is officially dead.

Given the favorable response to the show, Amazon greenlit a second season, but then made the surprise announcement last month that it has cancelled the show. Season 2 will be the last season ordered by the company. Following cancellation, The Tick creator Ben Edlund shopped the show around to other potential destinations, but that hasn't worked out.

In a tweet on Friday, Edlund said that 'after much door-knocking,' no one has stepped up to offer The Tick a new home and as such the series is officially dead. 'I'm sorry we could not reward your glorious support with better news,' Edlund told fans.

There may be a glimmer of hope, however, with Edlund saying in a different tweet, 'We will look for other opportunities to continue this story with this cast...' He clarifies that the current The Tick show 'must I'm afraid come to its end.' The first two seasons remain available to stream on Amazon and are free to Prime Video subscribers.

The Tick revolves around a big, powerful blue character called Tick in a world where superheros aren't unusual. That world seemingly wasn't home to legitimate super villains, but that changed with the arrival of a character called The Terror. Tick finds himself navigating this reality with an unwilling sidekick.
