Amazon Home Services briefly appears ahead of tipped launch

An Amazon marketplace called "Amazon Home Services" briefly appeared today as a rebranded version of its "Amazon Local Services". It has since been pulled, but a source has cropped up to say that the service will be officially launching this upcoming Monday, and with that launch will come availability much larger than the previous limited Local availability. This includes major cities across the United States (from Boston to San Francisco and many in between), and more are reportedly in the pipeline for inclusion.

The service cropped up briefly at Amazon.com/services today before the link was pulled, and according to a source that spoke to TechCrunch, it will be officially launching this upcoming Monday. The marketplace, upon launch, will include the following cities:

Miami

San Francisco

New York

Houston

Seattle

Chicago

Washington D.C.

Philadelphia

Boston

Dallas

Atlanta

Phoenix

San Diego

San Jose

Portland

Minneapolis

Detroit

Denver

Riverside

Tampa

Orlando

Austin

Sacramento

Pittsburgh

Nashville

Cincinnati

Charlotte

St. Louis

You can see that availability further detailed in the map below, which includes bubbles showing many more cities as "coming soon", in addition to ones that have "High", "Medium", and "Low" coverage. Based on past information about the thus-far limited offering, it will give consumers access to local services for things needed around the home — lawn care or babysitting, as an example.

Information on what, exactly, Amazon Home Services will provide isn't known at this point, but TechCrunch reports that it'll likely be services provided by startups with which Amazon is partnered. These businesses are said to be hand-picked for inclusion on the site, and they must meet certain standards like being insured and having a background check. Amazon hasn't commented on the leak.
