Amazon Beats Out Netflix At Golden Globes

Netflix may have kicked off the original content game, but Amazon has proven itself to be fierce competition. The latter company took home two Golden Globe awards while Netflix, despite several nominations, didn't get any. This comes at a time when Amazon's original content has increased in both quality and notoriety, particularly in light of its Transparent episodic series.

Netflix scored a total of eight Golden Globe nominations for various episodic series, including the excellent "Narcos" and popular "House of Cards." It didn't ultimately win on any of them, however, proving a blow for the service. This follows lackluster user ratings for its recently released original movies.

Amazon, though, saw success with its arguably lesser known "Mozart in the Jungle", which won two awards, beating out Hulu's "Casual" TV show. Mozart in the Jungle first premiered in 2014 and is described as a "comedic drama" set in New York City.

Though it was snubbed, Netflix is still plodding on with its original content efforts — something that as of October now includes original movies as well as original TV shows. The service has launched the Adam Sandler movie "The Ridiculous 6," as well as "A Very Murray Christmas" and "Beasts of No Nation."
