5 million Galaxy S8 units sold in less than a month

The Galaxy S8 is off to a rocking start, perhaps providing the salvation that Samsung has been praying and working hard for. According to the company, sales of its latest champ has crossed over 5 million unts, though it's coy about sharing actual numbers, not to mention profits. And that's in the Galaxy S8's first few weeks alone, with more countries expected to join the party before the month ends.

It's not hard to see why the Galaxy S8 would be popular. Especially when you actually do see it, even more when you hold it. Although the LG G6 beat it to the punch when it comes nearly bezel-less screens, Samsung punched back with its own Infinity Pool Display, top of the line specs, and more features than you probably need.

That said, the Galaxy S8 set off to a rocky start. In addition to a rather gimped Bixby at launch, complaints of reddish tints sprouted all over the Internet. And then there was the relatively minor scandal of unequal UFS storage distribution. Samsung has mostly addressed those complaints, save for the UFS issue.

History, however, would show us that even the Galaxy Note 7 enjoyed a good start before all hell broke loose. Samsung swears it has learned its lesson and so far we have not heard of any unfortunate incidents. Plus, despite its fragile appearance, the Galaxy S8 turned out to be one tough nut to scratch or bend.

Samsung is still looking forward to the next few weeks as it opens up sales in more than 120 countries around the globe. But it might have a more challenging time ahead. HTC has just launched the U11, which brings that same power in a more traditional form, with the highest rated camera on top. And the iPhone 8 is just around the corner, though rumors keep on flip-flopping about how great or not so great it would be.
